Tyrael's Boons could make your first big decision in Diablo 4's Season 16 PTR a lot more important than it looks. The proposed War Plans tree gives seasonal characters up to 132 points to spend across four paths, with room for only four of six available selections. Whether you're chasing D4 items or building up materials, you'll want a plan before spending those points. The system is described as available to seasonal players without requiring the Lord of Hatred expansion.
Think Before You Respec
There's a steep price for changing your mind: the stated cost is 5,000,000 gold to remove a single point. Move just four points and you're looking at 20,000,000 gold. That's a lot to spend correcting an early choice. The figures come from the planned 3.3.0 Public Test Realm, listed for October 27 through November 3, 2026, and they may change before release. Check the patch notes before treating any cost as settled. Tyrael's Boons is also intended to sit alongside Seasonal Blessings, rather than replace them.
Where Each Path Fits
The four paths serve different stages of a character's journey. Scent of Gold boosts gold and experience, making it an appealing early pick. Curious Addition focuses on the Purveyor of Curiosities, with options that affect item quality and the chance of receiving a second item. Merchant of Mystery is aimed at Torment players who want to spend Forgotten Souls on caches. Trash for Treasure, meanwhile, centers on crafting resources and item upgrades.
Scent of Gold: useful while leveling and building a gold reserve.
Curious Addition: worth considering when you have Obols to spend.
Merchant of Mystery: most relevant once you're farming Torment.
Trash for Treasure: focused on materials, salvaging, and tempering.
Why Greater Temper Matters
Trash for Treasure also opens a Horadric Cube recipe called Greater Temper. As described for the test, it upgrades an item's Tempered Affix to a Greater Affix for 30 Scrolls of Restoration and 1,000 Obducite. That's a reason to look at the path once you've found gear worth improving. You might start with Scent of Gold, then work toward your chosen crafting options as your character develops. Keep the respec cost in mind when deciding which points to assign first.
Planning for Your Own Character
It's worth writing down your intended selections before the season gets busy. Solo players can focus on the rewards they'll use most, while groups should check which bonuses actually apply to party members before dividing up their choices. U4GM offers a platform for purchasing game currency and items, and players considering u4gm D4 items can review the available options alongside their own gearing plans. Remember that resources earned on Eternal characters don't automatically carry into a new seasonal character.
